About Us

Lexie Moore, Georgia Mackey, Kara MacGillivray

We are three Year 13 students attending Macleans College, Lexie Moore, Kara Macgillivray and Georgia Mackey, who are very passionate about women rights. This year we are talking Social Studies which has given us the opportunity to be able to make a real change in New Zealand through our chosen topic of Sexual Assault. The term sexual assault refers to an act in which a person intentionally sexually touches someone else or forces them to partake in sexual activity without their explicit consent. From the research we have done into this topic, we have discovered it is a huge issue in New Zealand. In New Zealand, sexual assault is one of the key social problems undermining the health and well-being of our population. It has a wide prevalence and can have a high impact. We strive as a group to educate the general public about this underlying issue within our community.

Our Actions

1

SafeSociety

SafeSociety is a website outlet designed to educate the public about our issue. Our site is designed for the public to view and interact with as a source of information about sexual assault.

2

Our Petition

As a part of creating policy change we have decided to start a petition to raise awareness against Sexual Assault in New Zealand Society. For further information around this action look into the petition segment on our website.

3

Education

Through our research into sexual assault we have discovered that only 15% of New Zealand Schools are using funding to educate students on sexual assault. We propose for the New Zealand Government to propose compulsory education systems for both boys and girls in New Zealand to help build a safer society.
